I’ve been making this ranch dip for about a year now, and I think it’s THE RECIPE my friends and family are going to remember from me.

It’s addictive, delicious, and made with simple ingredients. Plus, it helps us eat their weight in vegetables every time we serve it.

Sure, maybe I originally threw it together haphazardly when I forgot to prepare a dish to share with friends. Maybe I still only eyeball the amount of dill every time I make it. But it’s become the staple thing we bring to anything with snacks.

So why try this ranch dip when there are so many other recipes out there?

Easy Ranch Dip Recipe

This homemade dip only uses a few ingredients, and it’s so easy my kids can make it – and they do regularly.

Here’s the thing. I’m not big on making my own seasoning mixes and dips. I like simple recipes that are versatile and flexible. I use my Greek Seasoning mix (the ONLY seasoning mix I make myself and use for everything) plus a touch of dill and that’s it. If you don’t make my Greek Seasoning, I know that’s like a whole thing you have to try. But you won’t regret it. It’s very versatile and made with simple spices (in fact, you probably already have them all).

We usually serve it with seasonal vegetables and snacks. I took these photos in the middle of winter, so celery and carrots were the main dipping veggie. But during the summer, we have tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers.

Ranch Dip Tips

  • This dip keeps in the fridge for up to one week.
  • If you are dairy-free, try it exclusively with a good quality mayonnaise.
  • If you are egg-free, use all sour cream or yogurt.
  • Make the Greek Seasoning in bulk and keep it in a jar in your cupboard. Use it for chicken, beef, pizza, salad dressing (our favorite), and this. You’ll be surprised how quickly you go through it.

Ingredients for Ranch Dip

For this Ranch Dip recipe, we use 4 ingredients:

Sour Cream or Plain Yogurt

Preferably use whole milk yogurt for the best flavor, but just use whatever you have.

Mayonnaise

REAL MAYONNAISE. I usually use the Aldi brand or occasionally the Chosen brand from Costco. But if you want to make this more real food, try this no-fail homemade mayonnaise for a really clean ranch dip.

Greek Seasoning

This is the only seasoning mix I make on the regular. It’s delicious, flavorful, and budget-friendly because it only uses the simplest spices (basically, when I made this, I needed spices and seasonings I could find at our discount grocery store, so… only the most basic).

We make Greek Seasoning in bulk and use it on everything: salad dressing (our family’s FAVORITE salad dressing. My kids love it, my parents and siblings all make it; it’s the best.), Beef roast, chicken, garlic bread, pizza sauce, pizza crust.

Because we always keep a jar of this in the cupboard, it makes this Ranch Dip super easy.

Dill

In order to make a true Ranch Dip, you need dill. That being said, if I’m out of dill, I omit it and make more of a Greek veggie dip. It’s garlicky and delicious, but not quite ranch.

Is Ranch Dressing the Same as Ranch Dip?

While they have the same seasonings, ranch dressing is more liquid than ranch dip. We use sour cream or yogurt in ranch dip. Traditionally, for ranch dressing, you use buttermilk. But I don’t typically have buttermilk in my kitchen. Instead, we make the dip and thin it with a little milk.

What is Good Dipped in Ranch?

Ranch dip is good on practically anything. But here’s how we love it best:

  • carrots
  • cucumbers
  • celery
  • grape or cherry tomatoes
  • sweet bell peppers
  • pretzels
  • potato chips
  • salad
  • potatoes
  • baked potatos
  • potato nachos
  • even pizza gets an honorable mention here (don’t knock it until you’ve tried ranch dip on pizza).

What Chips go with Ranch Dip?

This dip is incredible with potato chips, but it also tastes good with pretzels, assorted crackers, and even strips of bread (like this easy sourdough flatbread).

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain yogurt or sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Greek Seasoning (below)
  • 1/4 tsp dried dill

Instructions

In a medium-size bowl, combine the yogurt, mayonnaise, and seasonings. Stir it together thoroughly, then taste and adjust seasonings if needed (maybe you like more dill or a touch more garlic!).

Serve immediately (see suggestions in the post) or cover and refrigerate for an hour to let the flavors meld even more.

Greek Seasoning:

  • 1 tbsp dried basil
  • 1 tbsp dried parsley
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder (or 1 tbsp dried minced onion)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp pepper
  • Pour all ingredients in a small jar and shake it well to combine.
  • Use for: chicken, beef, roasted vegetables, steamed vegetables, pizza dough, potatoes, soup, garlic bread, vegetable dip, salad dressing, etc. - get creative!
